Color Range
Teak is naturally dark golden yellow or medium brown, and can turn darker brown with age.
Teak displays moderate color variation.
Stains, oils, and varnish can be added to change the color range.
Finish:
Teak is very flexible in the finishes that you can apply to it. With no finish at all, the wood will naturally weather to a pleasing silver gray. It naturally has a good matte finish. Stain can be used on teak although it is not needed. Teak can also be oiled with a finishing agent like linseed or tung oil. Teak can also be varnished for a high gloss or shiny glow.
USES:
Cabinets, interior millwork, interior flooring and walls, and many exterior applications.
83%+ Clear:
We offer Select & Better graded lumber that is at least 83% clear on one side.
Kiln dried:
All of our wood is kiln dried and stored in a protected warehouse.
We store our wood as S4S, which stands for “surfaced on 4 sides.” The boards have two flat and parallel faces and two flat and parallel edges. The boards are first surfaced on both faces (S2S) with a planer, and receive a rip on both edges.
Rot Resistance:
Teak has long been considered the gold standard for rot and decay resistance, as it is very durable. Teak is also resistant to fungi, mildew, and termites, but it is only moderately resistant to powder post beetles and marine borers.
Workability:
Teak is easy to work. Despite its natural oils, it glues and finishes well. The only draw back is it does contain a level of silica (up to 1.4%) which can blunt cutting edges.
environmental
Gast committed to using green building materials. This teak wood is an environmentally friendly solution as it is sustainably harvested. In the past, Teak consumption raised an environmental concern as rare old-growth teak was disappearing. However, its popularity has led to growth in sustainable teak production throughout forestry plantations in the tropics.
When materials are made with sustainability in mind, it means we live in a healthier world.
