environmental
Gast Home is committed to innovative green building materials and products that are smart and elegant, and these countertops are an ideal example. When materials are made with sustainability in mind, it means we live in a healthier world. These recycled paper countertops are made from FSC certified Recycled and FSC certified Mix post-consumer recycled paper, and a proprietary resin using the lowest impact raw materials possible. They are certified to Forest Stewardship Council standards by the Rainforest Alliance and by NSF, the International Public Health and Safety Organization to make sure it is safe for all food contact. It contains no formaldehyde and emits no VOCs.
LEED
The LEED Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy, is a voluntary standard for developing environmentally responsible, low emission, high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED certification is for the entire construction project. Materials and products used in buildings are not individually certified. Through a rigorous process of third-party verification by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) the project earns points towards achieving a particular level of certification (Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum).
Because these countertops use 100% recycled content, they may qualify for numerous LEED points in the selected categories of Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and potentially Innovation in Design.
- MR 4.1/4.2: Recycled Content (1-2 points)
- MR 5.1/5.2: Regional Materials (2 points)
- IEQ 4.4: Low-Emitting Materials – Composite Wood and Agrifiber (1 point)

Frequently Asked Questions
Our Recycled Paper Countertop material is ideal for countertops in any room, food prep surfaces, tabletops and other furniture, window sills, cabinets, indoor wall cladding, and many other uses.
Our recycled paper surfaces are dense, durable, and easy to care for. An initial sealing finish is applied to new countertops to protect against spotting from oily foods left on the surface for prolonged periods of time.
Our recycled paper countertops are made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper and non-petroleum based phenolic resins. It is a composite material where sheets of recycled paper are saturated with the resins and pigment, and then compressed under heat and pressure. This produces a dense, homogeneous and essentially non-porous material that does not delaminate. One fabricated, panels can be cut and routed with traditional high-quality carbide-tipped woodworking tools. This product machines and finishes like extremely dense hardwood.
