Ivory Palm Penny Tile

$11.99

This penny tile is made from nuts from the vegetable or nut of Tagua palms.  It is called ivory nut because it is almost indistinguishable from real ivory, even though it comes from palm trees.  The result is a very unique material that feels warm and is very durable — the nut is as strong as marble stone.  This is a 100% eco-friendly and green material, and a great alternative to paint or wallpaper.  Price is per one square foot sheet of tiles.

While ivory palm trees are not native to the United States, this is a great use of nuts that are in abundance.  This eco-friendly material is perfect for interior applications.  It is from 100% natural materials.  It is a green alternative to other wall finish materials and surfaces.  This mosaic tile is available in the range of earth-toned colors shown, which may vary from tile to tile and sheet to sheet.

Environmental

At our company’s core, we believe the built environment should be constructed with sustainability in mind.  That way we all live in a healthier world.  We are doing our part by searching for and supplying materials that lighten the load on our planet.

There are many green or environmental aspects of using this penny tile.  First, it comes from a nut that is in heavy abundance.

Harvesting these nuts is 8-9 times more efficient than stone because they are already sorted and no quarrying is needed.

We recommend this penny tile for homes in South America, where the material comes from.  Using local materials is ecologically friendly, and ties the building to the local landscape.  However, due to abundance of this nut in the United States, we also recommend its use there.

By using this product, we are decreasing the use of our most widely used natural resources.

Historically in the building process, there has been inherent waste of material.  This material has filled landfills, instead of being repurposed.  Palm nuts can be returned to nature.  This translates to no waste.

This ivory palm penny tile does not contain any VOCs or other compromising chemicals or toxins.  It comes naturally from the earth, so it is inherently sustainable.  Palm nut is also very low maintenance–no need for paint, sealers, or harsh cleaning products.  There is no off-gassing from toxic materials, finishes, or adhesives.

abrasion resistance: HIGH

Palm nut has high abrasion resistance.  However scratching might occur with exposure to very abrasive items.

Absorption: LOW

This penny tile has a low absorption rate.  However, highly pigmented liquids can penetrate and stain.  To reduce the appearance of stains, wipe up spills immediately.

Acid Sensitivity: Minimal

Ivory palm penny tile is minimally sensitive to acids.
