Quartzite is primarily used for countertops, but can also be used for wall surfaces, both for indoor and outdoor.
We believe when the building industry sources and manufactures building materials with sustainability in mind, we all live in a healthier world, and we want to do our part. Quartzite is ecologically friendly. It does not contain any VOCs, and are better than their non eco-friendly counterparts.
Quartzite is a natural stone, with as many colors found in nature. It will depend on the location it comes from and the minerals available. Some quartzites are monotone while others show wildly contrasting colors, creating a more rustic aesthetic.
One type of quartzite can exhibit mild color variation from slab to slab, so selecting specific slabs for your project is important.
Grain & Visual Pattern:
Quartzite’s visual pattern variations allow for a range of aesthetics. It can be calm and refined, or busy with a wild appearance.
Carefully selecting the pattern on the slab for your project is recommended to achieve a tailored look.
Texture and Finish:
Quartzite is a hard stone, so it can be finished with a variety of textures. It is suitable for:
- a natural finish
- a rustic finish with a rough texture
The texture of quartzite can also be refined with a smooth and even texture, making it great for:
- a satin finish
- a honed finish
- a light brush finish
- a smooth, mechanically sanded finish
Due to the different colors and patterns found in different stones, the right finish will depend on the specific stones you choose.
abrasion resistance: high
Quartzite has relatively high abrasion resistance. It rates as a 7 or higher on the Mohs hardness scale. It is less likely to scratch than marble, limestone, slate, onyx, etc..
Quartzite has a low to moderate absorption rate. Always seal it prior to use. Oil and highly pigmented liquids can penetrate and stain the stone. To reduce the appearance of stains, wipe up spills immediately.
Acid Sensitivity: Minimal
Quartzite is minimally sensitive to acids. It will not acid etch or lose its surface sheen when exposed to acidic liquids like tomatoes or lemons.
Due to known material weakness or because this material has not been tested, it is not suitable for use in exterior applications where freeze-thaw cycles are a concern.
