Gast is committed to using green building materials. This reclaimed oak is a great example of reusing existing materials.
When materials are sourced and manufactured with sustainability in mind, it means we live in a healthier world.
USES:
This whitewashed reclaimed oak is a great wood for interior flooring, though it can also be used for other interior millwork.
Color Range
This solid oak flooring option subtly reveals the colors typically seen in oak, but with a whitewash that feels right at home at the beach.
With reclaimed oak there is not even a need to whitewash — it’s naturally beautiful.
Finish and Texture:
This reclaimed oak has a milled face and is finished with a low VOC water-based polyurethane in either a satin gloss or matte finish.
Milled faced boards are sanded smooth, leaving traces of the original face and saw marks. This provides a clean and elegant look, with still a rustic finish.
Grain:
Oak has a straight grain, but the type of cut can greatly affect the appearance because oak has very large pores. We are using a reclaimed product here, so we cannot always control the cut, resulting in a widely varying grain pattern.
Dimensions and Formats:
This reclaimed oak is available only in solid wood. The thickness is 3/4″ and the plank width is 4.5″ minimum. Standard lengths are 1′ – 7′ but can reach 10′.
Installation methods:
Installation methods vary based on wood format and site conditions, but solid wood floors are typically nailed, or nailed and glued, to a plywood subfloor. When the planks are wide, gluing and nailing is the preferred method.
